My week is looking up

You'd think I'd be an old hat at this sort of thing, but it still make me want to get up and dance when it happens...

I just had a paper accepted for publication!!!

*victory dance*

The only trouble is that it's still a bit too long for a Letter. Time to pull out the red pen.


Now, I just need to be told I got the part in the musical I auditioned for last night, and my week will be complete.

Congratulations!

The length issue brings up a point that I'd like to know your opinion on. Is there really that much of a difference between ApJ and ApJL? I understand that, back in the day, a more rapid turnaround time was a big deal, but with everything these days being posted on arXiv as soon as it's accepted (often sooner), the line between an ApJ manuscript and an ApJL manuscript is blurred.

In this case, it may mean the difference between a 2008 publication and a 2009 one. :)

And actually, maybe that is my point. Hiring committees care how many papers you have in print, not what you've posted on astro-ph. My feeling is that publishing times have been getting longer in the last few years, and I could really use another publication before job hunting season opens again this fall.
