I knit during talks and conferences. I'm a working mother of two young boys. I study the mysteries of the universe in search of answers to the questions: where did we come from and why are we here? I'm a mid-range soprano and mediocre violinist. I'm a woman in astronomy, aspiring for greatness. I drive a Prius, recycle paper and plastics, and compost kitchen scraps, but it's not like I'm an environmentalist or anything. I'm a bleeding-heart liberal who believes that tolerance is a moral value. I care about the future of humanity, even if we will be engulfed by the sun in just a few billion years. My freshman advisor in college once wrote in an evaulation, "she does not suffer fools."
My journal is a hodge-podge of observations of life as a woman in astronomy, baby journal, personal journal, and the obligatory random reflections on life in the 21st century. My life is a case study on how having children during grad school affects a woman's later scientific career.
