Planet X. For real this time.

This is just so exciting. I had to share.

Not familiar with Chad.

I'm guessing the KBO/planet distinction just got that much muddier.
Yeah, isn't it great?? I'm in favor of demoting Pluto myself. Except it's the one planet besides Earth that DS1 consistently remembers...

I'm in favor of demoting Pluto myself. Don't let [livejournal.com profile] mjperson hear you say that. He's irritated enough already about the timing of the announcement of this UB313 thingy.

Sociology of Astronomy

There's some interesting Sociology of Astronomers going on with the anouncement. The announcement of EL61 basically forced these guys to announce UB313.

The other interesting tidbit is that this group headed by Mike Brown had code named these objects "Santa Claus," "Easter Bunny," and "Xena," which one could find out by looking at their proposals for time on the Hubble Space Telescope. We had a field day here at work Friday afternoon speculating on the nature of those objects.

There's some more interesting sociology going on for [livejournal.com profile] mjperson, too. I won't repeat it here; if he feels like clarifying, that's his job.
