Scotland

On the train from Edinburgh to St. Andrews:

American friend to man peddling food and drinks: "Do you have any soda?"

Peddler: "No soda, just juice. I have orange juice, apple juice, Sprite, Coke, and Diet Coke."

UPDATE: I have collected additional data that suggests that soda is called soda in Scotland after all. Also, Ceilidh is pronounced "kay-lee."

So, what's the proper English word for a soft drink in Scotland?

Juice, at least according to this guy.

Actually, a local person at this conference told me that they call it "soda," so perhaps he was just taking us all for a ride.
