I sympathize that this is a big problem for academics, but it is also a big problem for other people with jobs that involve frequent relocation. For example, people in the military or salespeople. In a way, at least academics are highly educated and have alternative career options which while they might be less prestigious than being a professor probably don't involve working at McDonalds or something.
