So, Friday night, DH came across a toad hopping around the basement. Mind you, our basement is almost entirely carpetted, and while it has been raining here, it's not like it's actually damp inside. So we were both pretty surpised. DH caught it and put it outside and we assumed that would be the end of it.

Then last night, I encountered another toad in the basement. Maybe someone is visiting a plague on us? Granted, there have been plenty of creepy-crawlies in our basement of the insect and spider variety, and while I find toads less creepy, they are not really typical basement fauna. We are thinking that either they managed to find a hole into the house, or they are actively breeding someplace. It brings to mind an episode of "George Shrinks" where George undertakes a science project involving the frog life cycle. It says something about my life that the television shows that come to mind are PBS Kids shows.

I have found evidence of mice in the kitchen! Including teethmarks in the soap!(?) So they must be pretty dumb mice.

I don't think they found their way into the pantry. Our two good-for-nothing cats seem complacent about it.

They must be in cahoots with the toads. They're probably using the same entrance into the house, anyway...
