Commutative commuting
Apr. 28th, 2005 09:40 amThe other night, DS1 bounded into the kitchen and announced to me, "Two plus two is four!"
This morning, in the car on the way to school, he suddenly asked me, "what's one plus two?" So I held up some fingers for him, let him count them, and he came up with the right answer. He even seems to understand that 1+2 and 2+1 both come out to 3. I brightly told him, "that's because addition is commutative!" which probably confused him, but he seems clever enough to not let it bother him.
