Despite being barely able to walk upright after Friday's soccer game, we went strawberry (or "tawberee" as DS2 likes to say) picking on Saturday. We went to Butler's Orchard this time. They had an interesting system where they assigned pickers to specific rows, expecting you to pretty much pick everything over in your row. Makes sense, that way they don't have some areas completely overpicked and others barely touched.

DH, DS1 and I picked about 16 pounds of berries. DS2 ate about a quart right there in the field. He was wearing a white shirt and dripped the juice all down his front and arms, and we got lots of amused comments from passersby about how much he seemed to be enjoying himself. We also picked a couple of pounds of snap peas while we were there.

It's always a pleasant surprise each June to be reminded just how sweet and juicy and flavorful strawberries can be. I managed to process them all over the weekend, and now we have a freezer full of strawberries. Time to look up some recipes...

Ah yes, yet another way I can worry about how I might screw my kids up for life: how I parent them might make them fat.

Notice that the study only really looked at white mothers. So perhaps I can say that it doesn't apply to me, since I'm not white and DH does his share of the parenting, so I don't need to worry if I'm being too strict, too permissive, or too neglectful. Or maybe it's too late, and it's already been added to my mental list of angsts about trying to be a good mother.

The Nomers are coming! The Nomers are coming!

Anybody wanna help me plan our trip? We're spending Saturday in Brookline, but most of Sunday is unscheduled. (Well, except now we have 2:30pm appt.) So, what should we do? Here are some ideas I have:

  • Dim sum
  • Picnic in the park. Which one?
  • Dinner mob. What restaurant?
  • Invade someone's home and play games. Want to volunteer?
  • Go visit someone's house, then DH and I quietly slip out the back and paint the town red.

Other suggestions?

If no one responds, then I'll interpret that to mean that no one actually care about our visit, in which case we'll go entertain ourselves and never visit Boston again. :Ppppbbbbttthht.
