Road trip anecdote
Jan. 5th, 2007 04:03 pmYes, I'm still telling stories about what I did last week.
A good friend of mine lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She invited me to come visit her, and I took her up on it, despite the fact that she lives 3 hours from Chicago, for a total of 5 hours from my parents. But the trip was totally worth it.
We stayed with her for two nights. Turns out that there's a very nice children's museum in Ft. Wayne. We got some late lunch at Wendy's and took the kids for a romp in a really nice playground full of wooden castle-type structures. Well, at least DS1 got a good romp -- DS2 fell asleep in the car. I was going back and forth between car and playground to make sure each kid was doing okay, and my friend eventually told me, "haven't you noticed all the other kids here are blond-haired and blue-eyed? Who'd want to run off with yours?" Gotta love the MidWest.
The next morning, I started driving back on Rte 30, a non-interstate highway, and I fell into this nice groove at 70 mph. I wasn't the only one, because I kept passing and being passed by the same two cars for most of the way across the state. Until I made a pit stop and lost them.
I met my parents in Chicago, because it seemed silly to drive all the way up to the farm and then back out again. My brother and I took the kids to the Shedd Aquarium, stood in line for half an hour, looked at swimming things for an hour, and then caught our train home.
