Went to my first rehearsal with my new chorus last night.

The music we're doing is something that I'm pretty sure I sang one summer as a grad student. I'm usually pretty good at remembering tunes, but for the life of me this one has escaped me. Anyway, I'm singing soprano now instead of alto, so I suppose it might as well be a completely new piece to me.

I'm also pleasantly surprised at the quality of the singers in this group. Maybe it's just that my standards have dropped because (1) I haven't sung in a chorus for a while and (2) the people I have been performing musicals with, while talented in many other ways, can't sing. The community group that I sang with in grad school (and [livejournal.com profile] chenoameg and [livejournal.com profile] ukelele may hate me for saying this) was not all that great, honestly. My recording of Carmina Burana with them brings tears to my eyes, for all the wrong reasons.

(And while I was tempted to put in filler words like $NEARBY_UNIVERSITY_CHORUS or REDACTED, I'm afraid I couldn't be bothered this time. Sorry to spoil the fun.)

I just chewed out a bunch of grad students who were playing in the hall with a ball, after it went *WHACK* against my door.

Kids these days.
