DH and I met with the oncologist today. She said that while my cancer is very rare (one in 400,000,000 was the figure quoted) it's also well-studied and very treatable. The CAT scan showed lesions on my liver and kidneys which may or may not actually be cancerous, but I'm going to have a PET scan done early next week to double check. I'm unlikely to need a hysterectomy, but I will have to undergo chemotherapy. I can take a course of daily injections for 8 days instead of weekly treatments for 7-9 weeks, which would suit me much better both because I could resume breastfeeding sooner and I'm more likely to be done with treatments before we have to move. She was also going to work on getting me referrals to gynecologic oncologists for a second opinion.

So here I am following my MIL's advice about getting a second opinion, and completely ignoring my own mom's advice about getting a hysterectomy. DH commented that getting a second opinion would help me act on sound advice, while getting a hysterectomy was just unsound advice. :) Something about one thing being completely irrevocable and the other just being medical advice.

I'm trying to build up a stash of frozen breastmilk for DS2 for the times I'll have to pump-and-dump, like for the PET scan next week and for the chemo treatments themselves. I tend to pump more than he eats while he's at daycare or with a sitter anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard. I've decided to start supplementing with formula, so I can stretch out the breastmilk supply as far as it can go.

Anyway, it sounds like treatments will be about as mild as you could expect, given that it's cancer I'm dealing with.

In other news, our house-hunt goes on. We looked at close to 20 houses over the weekend, and saw several that would be acceptable. Or first choice turned out to have enough problems on the home inspection that we decided to pass, the second choice was sold before we could put in a bid, and the third we were over-bid by close to $20,000. So now we are continuing to go down the list, and have asked our realtor to check a few more places out for us.

Dave is starting to be able to sit up on his own! When you sit him up, he puts his little arms up and can hold himself up for about a minute or so before he topples over completely.

Last night, I put him on our bed, where he still sleeps these days, lying on his back. I went to go give Chris a bath, and when I looked back on him, he had turned himself over onto his front! He then proceeded to put himself to sleep by sucking on a rag. I'm so proud of the little guy.

Bob tried telling Chris about mommy having a big boo-boo in her tummy, and she was going to be sick for a while. He thought about it for a little while, and said, "No two Davids!" So apparently he made the connection between big owwies in the tummy to childbirth, and came to the conclusion that I was going to have another baby. Clever boy, and yet still off the mark.
