Opening weekend

Friday night, for the first time in my life, I sung, danced, and acted in front of a paying audience. And all I can say is, WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO DO THIS?!?!
It's not like I had a lack of opportunities. I think I was inhibited by under-confidence in my abilities (who me? under-confident?) and stage fright. But in the last few years, I've given a lot of talks and gotten comfortable speaking in front of audiences. And I've certainly given talks in front of much larger audiences than the one Friday night, and done pretty well. I'm thinking next year, I'd like to try for a lead role. Except that might put my marriage in jeopardy...
Anyway, by all accounts the performance went pretty well. DS1 was quite the little charmer on stage. DS2 was apparently rapt, which is notable only because I was afraid he would be running around the hall all evening.
I volunteered to help wait tables Sunday evening, so finally got a chance to watch the whole show, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I laughed, I cried. (I never saw "Cats.") Being in the cast, I had the unfortunate ability to determine exactly which cues were missed and what mistakes were made. The only real glaring spot is that in one scene, the most elderly member of the cast (I think he must be in his 80s) is told, "You! Go run for a doctor!" and he shuffles slowly off the stage, resulting in laughter from the audience during what's supposed to be a very serious scene. I don't know what the director plans to do about that...
Anyhow, four more weekends left of the show. Can't wait to be on stage again!
