I'm heading up to NYC tomorrow morning for 2 days to interview for a job there. It's the sort of thing where if I were just giving a colloquium I would be a lot less nervous about it, and yet being less nervous would probably serve me better.

I also have to wonder if I really want my kids to grow up to be New Yorkers.

Anyway, please wish me luck.

admittedly, I moved there at 13 and never really made more than peace with the place, most kids seem to survive unscathed ;9 if it becomes relevant, I can share more of my opinions about it.

good luck!

I moved to TX at about M's age and I didn't turn into a texan, so there's certainly hope. Best of luck with the interview!

I dunno, a friend of mine moved to NYC towards the end of elementary school (or possibly beginning of middle school) and to this day remains scarred by her NYC experiences.

to be honest, I would be more worried that unclenomer would go nuts in an apartment than the boys not growing up well there ;9

It could be a lot worse: they could become New Jerseyans. That's what happens to most of the kids of people who work in NYC.

Good luck! (You'll just have to take the kids out every so often to remind them that a world exists outside the city ;-)
