Saturday morning we took DS1 to a classmate's birthday party at the other county park with a miniature train ride. Everyone had a great time. At the playground, I observed DS2 wanting to sit behind the steering wheel of the play-car, only to be rebuffed by his big brother and other older kids. So he went and did something else. As soon as the car cleared, he came back and got his turn. No tears or anything, just patient waiting. Wish he could always be that way.

Saturday evening I channeled

chenoameg and pulled out frozen ripe bananas and turned them into banana bread and muffins. The banana bread recipe came from the Joy of Cooking, with half the flour substituted with whole wheat flour, and a tablespoon of wheat gluten for good measure. The banana muffin recipe came from How To Cook Everything, using a mixture of all-purpose, whole wheat, and rye flours, also with a tablespoon of wheat gluten. I also added chocolate chips. It's all part of my plot to get my family to eat more fruit and protein. Might have worked better if I hadn't slightly burnt the muffins. Using an ice cream cone scoop, the kind with the doohickey that sweeps across the inside, is totally the way to apportion thick muffin batter.

Sunday I did nothing. Okay, so I went to the grocery store and got a few provisions, prevented DS2 from following his dad up the ladder onto the roof, and took the kids to the park for a few minutes until the mosquitos overcame me, but nothing of significance. DS2, on the other hand, demonstrated that he could climb up onto the bathroom counter using a stepstool and towel ring.
