Shitty New Year's Eve*

It's a Chinese tradition to clean one's house from top to bottom on New Year's Eve, for good luck. But I'm not Chinese and not an enthusiastic housekeeper, so I hadn't intended to do any intensive cleaning. But I wasn't counting on our dear little DS2 to go running around all over the house in nothing but a onesie and leaky diaper. And he's been sick lately, so not all is quite right with his gut. So we ended up cleaning and disinfecting the floors in the kitchen and a good part of the living/dining room, plus bleaching out the tub after cleaning up the little boy. Thank goodness for hand-held shower heads.
Otherwise, we had a nice low-key NYE. DS2 went to bed around his usual time, but we let DS1 stay up. I tried to make cheese fondue for dinner, but either I made one too many inappropriate substitutions or I just have no clue what I'm doing, because the cheese never really mixed into the wine. It tasted okay, though. The chocolate fondue worked out much better.
Recipe:
Break up one large 4 oz bar of semi-sweet chocolate into your 16 oz. crockpot.
Add fat-free half-and-half so it comes about halfway up the chocolate.
Throw in about 10 mini marshmallows.
Add a small splash of rum extract (~1/2 tsp?)
Turn on crockpot and let heat while you eat dinner. Stir every once in a while.
Let your 4-yo son help you cut up some fruit for dipping.
When the fondue looks ready, unplug the crockpot so it doesn't overheat.
Dip fruit into fondue and enjoy! (Except for the 4-yo, who won't eat the fruit, but wants to dip mini-marshmallows instead.)
Around about 11pm, DS1 wanted to have the party I'd been promising, so I broke out cake and ice cream and sparkling cider (and cheap pink champagne for me, DH doesn't drink) and some chips. After eating, DS1 told me he was tired and wanted to go to bed. So by 11:30 he was asleep in bed. DH and I stayed up to watch the Ball Drop, and went to bed shortly thereafter.
Today we'll have Korean New Year Soup, for lunch instead of breakfast because I'm slow getting started in the morning. Happy New Year, everyone!
*Edit: No, it was only literally shitty, not figuratively. Overall, it was quite pleasant.
